Why Social Media is Crucial for Your Business.

Long gone are the days of Facebook just being used to keep in touch with your friends, Instagram to share pictures of you and your dog and Twitter to rant your shower thoughts.

Of course, these platforms do still keep their original purposes to this day, but it is impossible to ignore the sheer potential of using them to their maximum potential to provide unfathomable advantages to your business.

What do I mean by this?

Well, to answer your question, we need to travel back in time a few years.

The year is 2003, and an introverted Computer Science student at Harvard came up with a way of connecting people around his university by building a platform which would allow them to share their activities, thoughts, photos and feelings all in one place. It became such a hit, they had over 6 million users after just a year of being online.

I’m sure most reading this will probably be able to deduce that this student’s name was Mark Zuckerberg, and I don’t think I even need say what the platform was.

This (after MySpace - anyone remember that?) would become the world’s introduction to social networking.

You’re probably wondering if there was a point to my little anecdote there, or if it was just a sneaky ploy to increase this post’s retention figures. I promise, there was.

Facebook had over 6 million active users in its first year. Do you want to take a guess at what it is now?

Show of hands?

2.19 billion active users a month.

At the time of writing, that’s more than 27% of the worlds population, per month.

In fact, over 59% of the world (~4.7 billion people) use social media, with around 230 million accounts being made across all platforms who care to share in the last 12 months.

That. Is. Nuts.

I’m sure that now you can see where I’m going with this. Just imagine the reach that can be provided to your business.

Social Media is an excellent tool to boost your brand awareness, connect with customers, generate leads and provide customer service. Don’t believe me? Ask any one of the tens of millions of companies, small businesses and freelancers who use it.

On that note, I hope you now have a better understanding of just how important Social Media Marketing is for your business.
